About Natalie Price
My name is Natalie, and I am part of the lionfish hunting community here in Bermuda. My husband Tim and I are both freedivers (we have never done scuba) and are part of a local dive team called the Sexy Reef Ambassadors. We have been hunting together since 2017.
We all work full time jobs, so we go lionfish hunting as often as we can in our spare time. It’s a bit of an addiction.
What do you like about lionfish hunting?
In Bermuda, we often hunt for lionfish right off the south shore beaches…so no boat is required. I love going for a hunt after work in the evenings at one of our local beaches which is 5 minutes from where we live. It’s a great way to relax, unwind, cool off, get some exercise, find dinner and just enjoy the time being out in the ocean. Every dive is different and I have really grown to love, appreciate, and respect the ocean even more through lionfish hunting.
What do you like about the lionfish community?
We enjoy being part of the local lionfish community as we have learned so much about lionfish from both our own personal experiences and also from the other divers. We take part in local Derbies, and although these tournaments can sometimes get quite competitive, we have to remind ourselves we are all out there on the same team with the same goal in mind…..to help curb the lionfish population.
It feels good to be part of a movement that not only benefits the environment, it helps save money on groceries! All one needs is some basic snorkel gear, a decent spear, a permit and off you go.
